Arianne reborn

Filed under: Rendering, Arianne — opaque @ 10:49 pm

Using Maya 8’s new SSS capabilities, I decided to rework the way Arianne had to be rendered. The character remains pretty much the same, save for a few modifications on the rig and character itself.

The new shader uses a very simple layered shader with a SSS color map to define the color of scattered light along her body (to simulate the blood underneath scattering the light and all that). Although the method is really simple it proves to be very efficient. On top of that I added a subtle fresnel effect.

Real-time Filmmaking with iClone 1.5

Filed under: Publications — opaque @ 4:01 am

One of the things that I did during my time at SIGGRAPH was to pay a visit to the Reallusion booth on the showfloor, and I surely didn’t leave empty-handed. This is a review of iClone 1.5 which was launched during SIGGRAPH time. This version has a lot of improvements over version 1.0, so if you are an iClone fan, you should really read this. You can read my review here.

Salud’s 3D commercial demo

Filed under: Works — opaque @ 11:15 am

I am slowly recovering from my Carpal Tunnel, and my wrist is almost brand new. I still get pains from time to time if I use the computer too much, so I try not to force myself too much.

Even so, I had to begin working again, so I made this for a possible client. The video is a non-commercial demo of a bunny and the milk-chocolate pack, and it was made for the company that makes that milk-chocolate (yes, the character they use is a bunny). For this I used GI, dynamics for the ears and tail and also cloth simulation for the clothing. Now I am just waiting to see what they say and hoping I get the account :)

Proof of concept WIP

Filed under: Works — opaque @ 1:20 pm

Hello

I had begun working on this a month ago but due to the carpal tunnel I had to stop. This is a proof of concept that I am developing for a possible client. I had finished the model a while ago but it wasn’t till yesterday that I retook this work, so I’ve been slowly painting the texture (they are simple textures but still it’s difficult to paint with a sore hand).

Also I will add fur to it to make it look cooler, and then I will make an animation. The idea is to use him for commercial spots so he also has to work well in motion.

Create breathtaking 3D with Maya 8

Filed under: Publications — opaque @ 10:58 pm

Hello :)

This SIGGRAPH was a good one not only because of the stuff that I saw but also because of the stuff that I got… including a nice copy of Maya 8 :D

I wrote a review about it for Renderosity and it’s been posted on the front page this week. Click here to read the review.

Damn carpal tunnel…

Filed under: Stuff — opaque @ 12:07 pm

Well it finally came to pass. I’ve developed that stupid sickness for too much modeling and keyframing… Well, in a way I figure that was expected so it didn’t catch me completely off guard, lol. Anyway, I’ve continued working on future publications for Renderosity, but I have barely done anything new in 3D. It seems it will take me a while to “create breathtaking 3d” again.

The good thing is that my condition is not so serious, so I don’t need an operation. I still had to go through therapy and most of the pain has gone away. I hope I will be able to get back to work in no time :D
